Kimmy's Digital Diary - August 28

i love books so much. i got over my reading slump finally and i've been bringing my kindle everywhere with me.

it’s hard to even explain the kind of love i have for books and stories.

the closest i can get to describing it goes a little bit like this: it's this all consuming love that leaves your heartstrings yearning for more when the book is closed. we may not be able to experience magic exactly like how its portrayed in media but reading is magic in itself. the way an author can build an entire universe in their mind and then hand that universe over to us, is something i’ll never stop being in awe of.

THANK YOU AUTHORS!!!

as for me and the books i've been into recently? i've always been one to bury my nose deep into a book with a little bit of magic, and a whisper of whimsy. throw in some deep yearning romance where i get to see each character's pov and you have me hooked. if stories that feel cozy but have some sort of dark mystery attached to them have zero fans im dead.

some of my favourite recent reads have been these books:

drop dead sisters — darkly funny, twisty, and the perfect mix of murder mystery and sisterhood drama. it’s giving gilmore girls meets only murders in the building, and honestly i was hooked from the first page. and i recently learned there will be a sequel called sisters before misters!!

the whimbrel house series (4 books) — pure whimsy and full of characters who feel like old friends you want to invite over for tea. it has magic, YEARNING lovers, chosen family, an evil wizard after revenge and just enough suspense to keep you turning pages late into the night. i've been waiting every year for the books to come out as charlie n. holmberg is writing them and i'm NEVER disappointed. hulda + meritt fernsy have my heart (owein too!)

  • keeper of enchanted rooms: merritt fernsby inherits a haunted house that’s very much alive, and hulda larkin (my favorite no-nonsense queen) is sent to manage it. cue magic, danger, and the beginnings of something tender between them.

  • heir of uncertain magic: merritt discovers magical abilities of his own, hulda continues to shine, and their relationship deepens in ways that made me kick my feet around and giggle.

  • boy of chaotic making: found family!!, chaos, and heartbreak — a new ward tests everything hulda and merritt thought they knew.

  • wizard of most wicked ways: darker magic, higher stakes, and choices that prove love and belonging are worth the fight.

weekly lesson

the things we’re passionate about like books, art, hobbies, and little obsessions are what make life richer. share them with as many people as you can!! and just as important, ask others about theirs. because every time you step into someone else’s passion, your own world expands.
